An Interactive Focus on Therapeutic Techniques for ALL NURSES
Friday, August 25, 2017
What's Different About THIS Seminar?
This seminar will provide hands-on educational approaches to assist registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and other non-therapist providers to identify therapeutic techniques they can use with a variety of patients. Attendees will participate in lecture content and practice these techniques in a small group setting.
Prior to the seminar, a handbook will be emailed to all registered participants to enable them to offer their own unique challenging situations for discussion during the seminar. The handbook will serve as a tool of reference. By participating in the lectures and interacting in the group exercises, participants will utilize the handbook to identify activities they can use immediately to benefit their patients.
SEATING IS LIMITED, so register early for this unique opportunity to participate in this hands-on seminar.
Agenda at a Glance:
"Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the Beginner"
Roderick Green, PMHNP-BC
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy assists individuals to understand the relationship among their thoughts, feelings, and actions. Mr. Green will provide an overview of cognitive behavioral therapy techniques that providers can use in all settings and use scenarios to emphasize the important points in the small group setting.
"Mindfulness Techniques Anyone Can Use"
Mindfulness is a technique that allows the patients to gain a better understanding of their thoughts in the present moment and how to gain control of those associated emotions. The speaker presents participants with some basic mindfulness exercises that can be applied in general practice.
"Eating Disorders & EMDR Therapy"
Marie Rothman, MS, NCC, LPC
When patients have eating disorders, art techniques and EMDR therapy can be used as modalities. The application of art techniques and the extended EMDR resourcing enables the art to act as an intervention for body image issues where positive beliefs can be installed.
"It is a Disease: An Introduction to the Science Behind Opiate Addiction"
Roderick Green, PMHNP-BC
Rather than being viewed as a moral failing, addiction is considered a disease. Mr. Green presents information that emphasizes how individuals who are addicted are struggling with a vicious cycle of physical dependency, withdrawals, and poor decision-making as a result of physical changes occurring in the brain.
"Using Support Groups to Enhance Wellness"
Janet McMillan, DSN, RN, PMHNP-BC
Support groups come in all shapes and sizes and have benefitted many individuals with a variety of issues. This seminar will help participants understand the basic tenets of starting a support group in your community and strategies to help ensure its continued success to enhance wellness of the group members.
